Four weeks before the presidential election in the United States, polls indicate that Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden has extended the lead over US President Donald Trump.
The official date is November 3, but the presidential election is already taking place by mail and in 18 states where it is already possible to vote in person.
Some polling stations lined up on Tuesday (6).
Four million five hundred thousand Americans have already voted. In 2016, in the same period, there were just over 400 thousand.
From Monday (5) to Tuesday (6), the advantage of Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden over Trump has increased on average in national polls.
Biden now has 51.2% of voting intentions, up from 42.2% for Trump. Two topics dominate the race: the economy and Covid.
On social media, Trump compared the disease to the flu and said: we are learning to live with Covid, which in some populations is much less lethal.
Facebook withdrew the message from the president, warning that he often removes misleading messages about the severity of Covid.
In the United States, 178,000 people have died from the flu in the past five years and more than 210,000 have died from Covid in eight months.
Although he’s still infected, the president also said he is looking forward to the next debate, scheduled for next week.
Joe Biden has already stated that if doctors deem it safe, he is willing to participate.
The presidential doctor said that Trump no longer has any symptoms and that the oxygen level in his blood is between 95 and 97%, within what doctors consider normal.
In the second, the president spoke about the disease itself: “I knew the danger, but I had to. I stayed on the front line and led the country. Nobody who is a leader would stop doing what I did, “said the president.
The president’s strategy is clear: he wants voters to see his illness as a consequence of his courageous stance in the face of the pandemic. Critics say that, far from being inevitable, the contamination of the president is a direct consequence of the fact that Trump routinely ignores recommendations to avoid contagion, such as wearing a mask and social detachment.
Biden’s strategy is to show voters that he takes the threat of the pandemic seriously and abides by the guidelines of doctors and scientists.
The Democratic Party candidate campaigned in the decisive state of Pennsylvania.
He said, “We pay a high price for allowing deep political divisions in that country to influence the way people deal with the coronavirus.”
Biden recalled that wearing a mask and respecting social distance are not political positions, they are scientific recommendations. He added: “We cannot repair the damage that has been done, but we can do much better starting today.”
