The São Paulo government today announced a package of economic measures to help the state through the worst moment of the covid-19 pandemic. Starting in April, the state will reduce the ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services) for meat, zero for milk and will open a credit line of R $ 100 million for the economic sectors most affected by the pandemic.
The measures were announced at a press conference by the São Paulo government today, at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in São Paulo. The additional actions are given in the context of an advance of the pandemic, with records followed by daily deaths and occupation of beds dedicated to patients with the disease in the state.
Meat and milk
The meat measure will be aimed at small establishments, such as butchers, from Simples Nacional, with a reduction from 13.3% to 7% of the ICMS in purchase for resale. The decision marks a return to the fees charged until the beginning of the year.
In mid-January, the state government revoked the tax benefits of these foods and it was the other way around: it went from 7% to 13.3%. The milk ICMS will be reset. Both measures are expected to take effect from April 1.
Credit of R $ 100 million to affected sectors
The government also announced a credit line of R $ 100 million to the most affected economic sectors. It will be R $ 50 million at low interest rates and with an extended grace period for bars and restaurants through Desenvolve SP, a state government financial institution.
Another R $ 50 million will be allocated to other affected sectors, such as commerce, gyms, beauty salons and hairdressers and these and events, through Banco do Povo.
Gas and water cut suspension
As a further measure to help the economic sectors, the government also announced the extension of the suspension of the water and gas supply cut to the commerce and services sectors until April 30. By then, the measure was to end on March 30.
Establishments that have not paid their bills will not be denied names and debts can be negotiated in up to 12 installments without penalties or interest.
