João Campos (PSB) is elected mayor of Recife, projects Datafolha

RECIFE – In one of the fiercest disputes in the country, the PSB candidate for the prefecture of Recife, João Campos (PSB), was elected this Sunday, according to Datafolha projection. With 56.3% of the votes counted, he has 55.5% of the valid votes in the second round. The opponent and cousin, Marília Arraes (PT), who confronted him with the support of former President Lula, obtained 44.5% of the votes.

In the morning, both candidates received allies and voted. At his home, João Campos, son of former governor Eduardo Campos, who died in 2014, received the leadership and the vice-president, Isabella de Roldão (PDT). He thanked voters for their support and said he would work “tirelessly” every day to improve the quality of life in the city.

João Campos represents the hegemony of almost eight years in the city government and almost 14 years in the state government. Also present with the candidate were the current mayor and ally, Geraldo Julio (PSB), and deputies and councilors. Around 11 in the morning he voted for a public school in the Apicucos neighborhood.

Already Marília Arraes accompanied her grandmother, Vilma Rocha, in an electoral section of the Colégio Sagrada Família, in the Casa Forte neighborhood. He then attended a mass at the Igreja das Fronteiras. In the final stretch, both candidates saluted the religious to achieve victory.

Before, the PT still had breakfast, at home, with dozens of representatives of the evangelical segment. It even received the mayor of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, André Ferreira (PL), re-elected in the first round with the support of Jair Bolsonaro.

– With this meeting we are showing that God has plans for us – said Marília.
