Corinthians beat Goiás 2 to 1, a turning point, today (21), at Neo Química Arena, for the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship. Timão won with a goal from Jô, who scored Alvinegro’s second goal and broke a quick ten games without moving the nets. Gustavo Mosquito tied for the Alvinegro team after Fernandão opened the scoring for the Goianos.
The striker’s last goal was three months ago, on September 5, in a 2-2 draw with Botafogo, for the Brazilian’s eighth matchday. It is worth mentioning that Jo was out for just over 40 days, adding muscle damage and having been tested positive for Covid-19.
Corinthians reaches 36 points and rises to ninth place, five behind the G-6, the group that plays the Copa Libertadores de América next season. Goiás, for his part, remains in the spotlight of the competition, with 20 points.
Timão will return to the pitch next Sunday (27), when he will face Botafogo, at 4 pm (Brasilia time), in Engenhão, for the 27th round of the Brazilian Championship. Goiás, meanwhile, will face Sport, on Saturday (26), at 7pm (from Brasilia), in Goiânia, for the same round.
Who did it well: Cazares “teacher”
The midfielder Cazares was unbalanced as the “driver” of the game. Number 10 was in charge of assisting Mosquito’s goals, Timão’s draw, and Jô, who scored the return goal. In addition, the Ecuadorian finished well and was about to score his goal in other plays. Even the opponent’s hat triggered the game.
Who was wrong: Miguel Figueira delivered
Miguel Figueira was ill during the match when marking Cazares. To make matters worse, the midfielder lost the ball to shirt 10 at the exit of the ball at the entrance to the Goiás area and saw the Ecuadorian play for Jô to turn the game around.
Cassio in the hospital
Goalkeeper Cássio was replaced by Walter at the end of the match against Goiás. Shirt 12 suffered a blow to the neck after colliding with Vinícius inside the area. The Corinthians idol left the field on a stretcher and with a cervical vest around his neck. As a precaution, Cássio was taken by ambulance to São Luiz Hospital, in São Paulo. Club staff reported that he is conscious and awake, but will be subject to more detailed evaluations.
Dobradinha Cazares and Otero
The gringos Cazares and Otero, old acquaintances since they worked together at Atlético-MG, do a good double in Timão’s offensive sector. Today, the two changed positions and abused the tables. In one of them, Otero played with the number 10 shirt, which was a great help for Mosquito to tie the match in the Arena. In another partnership, Otero ended up on the board.
Game timeline
Corinthians started the game in attack, playing vertically and quickly, but surprised at the beginning. Timão conceded the goal after three minutes, when Baggio crossed for Fernandão to finish low from first to open the scoring with a typical goal from a “matador”. However, Mancini’s team kept the “footprint” and tied with Gustavo Mosquito after a precious assist from Cazares.
After the draw, Goiás maintained its strong marking position and betting on the transition, while Corinthians also insisted on its strategy of speed and exchange of fast passes to reach the attack. For this reason, Alvinegro had several occasions to turn the game around, mainly with Otero and Cazares.
The Venezuelan, by the way, kicked the crossbar. Cazares tried to take cover. Jô fought for the ball from above, but without success. But Corinthians involved Goiás with triangulations and background movements. In the second half, Corinthians continued to suffocate Goiás and turned the game around at the start, with Jô’s goal after a five-minute pass from Cazares. Goiás only threatened to pressure at the end of the match, and almost tied. The visitors hit the crossbar with David in the 43rd minute after a corner kick. Even so, Timão kept up the little pressure at the end and guaranteed victory.
Fight against racism
Corinthians played the game against Goiás with the name of Luiz Eduardo, 11 years old, printed on the back of each athlete’s jersey. The boy, who plays for the Uberlândia Academy, reported having suffered racist insults during a match against Set Esportes, for the Caldas Cup. as soon as possible, to a new awareness of respect for the life of the black population ”.
