JHC, from PSB, was elected in the second round of the Maceió mayor’s office this Sunday (29). With 100% of the votes counted, the federal deputy obtained 222,147 votes, which corresponds to 58.64% of valid votes, compared to 156,704 for Alfredo Gaspar de Mendonça (MDB), 41.36%.

The elected vice mayor is Ronaldo Lessa (MDB), former mayor of Maceió and former governor of Alagoas.
Maceió’s election had 164,739 abstentions (27.81%), 12,706 white votes (2.97%) and 36,092 null votes (8.44%).

João Henrique Holanda Caldas, JHC, is 33 years old, is a lawyer, specialist in digital law and compliance, master in public management and entrepreneur.
He was elected in 2014 as the most voted federal deputy in Alagoas. In the 2018 general elections he was a candidate for reelection, being the most voted federal deputy in Brazil, proportionally. It has a declared equity of R $ 1,973,391.98.
In the 1st round, the voting was adjusted. JHC had only 1,181 fewer votes than Gaspar.

During the election campaign, JHC was only ahead of its opponent at the polls after the first round. The latest Ibope poll showed him with 57% of valid votes, while Gaspar had 43%.
Although he was in favor of health measures to reduce the risk of contagion with the new coronavirus, the candidate promoted crowds during walks through the neighborhoods of Maceió. On several occasions he was photographed and filmed without a protective mask.
Among the candidates who ran for the first round of the elections, none declared their support for JHC. Josan Leite (Patriota) supported Alfredo Gaspar and all the other candidates declared that they would not support anyone in the 2nd round.
JHC did not attend all the sabbaticals and debates promoted by the press, often citing conflicts of agenda. In the last television debate prior to the second round, held by TV Gazeta de Alagoas, the then candidate appeared, presented proposals, but did not spare his opponent attacks either.

In its government plan, JHC proposes expanding access to full-time early childhood education; expansion of municipal nurseries; increased enrollment in early childhood education; reduce the current age-grade distortion rate in municipal schools; reduce the current dropout rate in municipal schools; increase the current IDEB score for the initial and final years of elementary school; improve the forms of monitoring and fulfillment of the goals of the Municipal Education Plan and adopt the literacy policy at the appropriate age.
In addition, it is also in its government plan to establish processes and parameters to monitor and evaluate learning; invest in school units with greater learning disabilities; create a protocol for the full resumption of classes in the municipal network, observing health policies that preserve students, families and all professionals related to education; improve and expand the municipal school transport service; to institute the Program of Professional Appreciation of Education, with bonuses for the results obtained; and pay 60% of the FUNDEF Precautions owed to the teachers.
There is also a proposal to elect municipal administrators by public selection; create a nutrition policy in the municipal school system; create the program “The family place is at school”, making the school space an area for family interaction on days when there is no class; We resumed the debate on the incorporation to the program of civic-military schools of the Federal Government.
Other JHC proposals are to create the “Back to School” program, an active search in alliance with guardian counselors, for students who have dropped out or are outside the public educational system, especially due to the Pandemic; structuring the Guardianship Councils, recognizing them as fundamental tools for youth policies, especially education; strengthen EJA – Youth and Adult Education in the municipal network; and evaluate, in a transparent and careful way, until October 2021, the deadline for the contest, the appointment of members of the technical reserve for education.
