Journalist Jason Schreier, who was part of the Kotaku website and will now write soon for Bloomberg, commented on his Twitter how the The last of us, part II This news does not contain spoilers.
According to SchreierAfter speaking to two sources who understood what happened, the leak was not from an employee disgusted with Naughty Dog. It was a hack on the company’s servers.
Hackers found a vulnerability in an old Naughty Dog game and, through it, they had access to servers. Schreier also says that the leak as an act of protest from a developer is not true. In fact, Naughty Dog increased pay and health benefits due to COVID-19.
Another user explains in a more technical way what happened. in this Twitter thread. In addition to talking about exactly how the hacking happened (through a gap in the Amazon AWS key), he explains that the user who hacked is not the same user who leaked it. In this case, whoever discovered the rape passed it on to someone else although, in this case, they used it to filter everything.
The user also clarifies that the development kit is something very easy to obtain, so even if the content obtained through piracy needs a kit to run, it is not an obstacle because it is something relatively easy to acquire. This explains why the videos have programming codes and why everyone believed it was an in-house developer or tester who leaked everything.
Obviously, everything that is present here is a rumor, but since Sony had clarified that it was not an employee of him or Naughty Dog, in addition to Schreier had a very high credibility record, the explanation here is quite plausible.
Still related to the leaks, there are reports that Sony is releasing videos on YouTube that are only discussing the content of the leak (meaning they only talk about it and don’t show the leaked material). In other words, not only are the videos containing the leaked material being removed, but all the videos mentioning the leaks.
The last of us, part II It will be released on June 19 for PS4.
