An adult jaguar was rescued in the Porto Jofre region, in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, with wounds and signs of burns, this Friday (11).
The animal was found by teams from the Military Fire Brigade and volunteer veterinarians working to rescue animals in the region, which has already had much of the vegetation burned.
The jaguar received the first calls on the spot. Then, the Brazilian Navy helicopter was activated to rescue the animal, which was sent to Cuiabá.

At the airport, a team from the Environmental Emergencies Battalion transported the jaguar to the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, where he is now receiving treatment.
The flames have already reached 2.3 million hectares of the biome, according to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe). The number represents more than 15% of the total length of the Pantanal.
The burned area corresponds, for example, to almost three times the metropolitan region of São Paulo, which is home to 39 municipalities, or 15 times the area of the capital of São Paulo.

In the midst of the advancing fire, the animals struggle to survive, while the vegetation is devastated.
From January to early September, there were 12,100 hot spots in the Pantanal, according to Inpe. It is the highest number in the period since 1998, when the institute began monitoring that became a benchmark for monitoring fires in the country.
