The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul is working on several fronts to try to clarify all the circumstances that led to the brutal murder of João Alberto Silveira Freitas by two security guards on Thursday night (19), a unit of Carrefour in Porto Alegre.

In a new video, obtained by “Good” this Saturday (21), you may see the previous events to the beating of João Alberto, which is followed by two security guards and hit one of the employees before being brutally beaten up death. .

“Any kind of disagreement, whatever it is, never be justified to carry out violence as the one that occurred during this action, these security guards at the supermarket,” says Roberta Bertoldo head.

Also according to the delegate, since Thursday the Police has been working with the objective of “specifying the conduct of all people, so that everyone is accountable for their involvement in this criminal action.

The investigation listens to information indicated by people linked to the victim and also by those involved with the accused, according to Roberta.

“Then we look for images from security cameras in order to better clarify where the real truth of these events lies. But what matters at that moment is to evaluate the behavior of these two individuals who acted in an extremely exacerbated manner in relation to the containment of this client ”. says the delegate.

The two attackers, 24-year-old military police officer Giovane Gaspar da Silva and 30-year-old security guard Magno Braz Borges, were arrested on the spot and pre-trial detention was ordered on Friday afternoon.

“Objectively, we have two people arrested,” said the delegate, who adds: “Now we are working to identify others who may have contributed to this result in their omissions and the actions taken, whether large or minor importance. Each one will have their conduct evaluated and held accountable based on this tragic result. “

The police analyze images to try to identify other people at the scene, clarify what really motivated the discord and find out if there was a failure to help in the case.

Reaction and manifestations

João Alberto’s father, João Batista Rodrigues Freitas, told the G1 on Friday (20): “Even if it was a punch, I think it is not a reason to take a person’s life”. He called the murder of his son a “cowardly assault” and an “act of racism.”

The murder of João Alberto sparked demonstrations throughout Brazil against murder and racism in the country. Authorities, academics, social entities and personalities have made several declarations of repudiation of the murder.

President Jair Bolsonaro said that racial tensions are imported and “alien” to the country’s history. Vice President Hamilton Mourão mourned the death, but said there is no racism in Brazil.

‘Fun, partner’: souvenirs and petition for justice

João Alberto was buried this Saturday morning (21), in Porto Alegre. Friends and family paid a final tribute to the victim.

Very shocked, João Alberto’s wife, Milena Borges Alves, asked for justice. “I have nothing to say. I just want justice, I want them to pay.”

One of her daughters, Taís Amaral Freitas, thanked the family for the support they have received. “We even feel comfortable about it, but it still doesn’t bring us back to life. There isn’t much to talk about after seeing those images.”

A close friend of the welder, Noé Fernando Pithan also paid him one last tribute.

“Playful, funny, even partner, even I have a club shirt that he gave me, and he liked to wear a cap, a club shirt. There is no way to accept such a thing, there is no way, nobody will explain it to you there” , breather.

Detention in the act and internal investigation

The two attackers, 24-year-old military police officer Giovane Gaspar da Silva and 30-year-old security guard Magno Braz Borges, were arrested on the spot and pre-trial detention was ordered on Friday afternoon.

The first analyzes of the General Institute of Legal Medicine of RS (IGP-RS) pointed to the possibility of asphyxia as the cause of Beto’s death.

Attorney William Vacari Freitas, who is defending Magno, told G1: “We will await the results of the forensics and other investigations.”

Lawyer David Leal, who took over Giovane’s defense, says his client reported that João Alberto “was upset” and “ran into a lady” at the supermarket. They must be charged with triple qualified murder.

The global president of the Carrefour Group, Alexandre Bompard, said that the death of João Alberto Silveira Freitas was a “horrible act” and that he repudiates intolerance.

Bompard also reported that he asked the group’s teams in Brazil to collaborate with the Justice and the authorities so that “the facts of this horrible event come to light.” When specifying that measures were taken in relation to the hired security company, the executive pointed out that “these measures are insufficient.” On Friday, Carrefour in Brazil had already reported that it would break the contract with the company responsible for the security guards who committed the attack.

In a note, the company said it was the saddest day in its history, that it will donate the sales results of that day to entities that fight against racism. Carrefour broke the contract with the subcontracted company and the company fired the employees.
