A sports fan, Marivaldo Francisco da Silva would never have imagined that his walk of 60 km, for about 12 hours, from the city of Pombos, in the interior of Pernambuco, to Recife, to watch a match, would render him such an important recognition.

Today, at The Best 2020, Marivaldo took home the Fifa Fan Award, beating Scotsman James Anderson, a philanthropist who donated millions to help clubs, and a group of Colombian fans who came together to distribute food during the coronavirus pandemic.

To the official channel of Sport, Marivaldo detailed the emotion he felt when he heard his name. “First, I’ve never been in a situation like this before. When I saw your photo [o outro concorrente] I was like, ‘There, it will be him. After a while he passed and said ‘Marivaldo Francisco da Silva’. Ready. Just emotion. Joy. I wanted to vibrate, scream, run. To the extent that many people ask me to calm down, I hold back a bit. The joy is immense, “he said.

He says it took him a while to calm down. “My plug fell off, my body is already calming down, but it shook me emotionally. I never expected a simple matter to have such a proportion. (…) Actually, for me, this is a new world. Like I said, I didn’t do it with that intention, but God gave it to me. I was elected internationally, it was not just any title, I represented several institutions, several people, I just have to thank God and everyone ”, he concluded.
