It is false that votes can be transferred from those that will justify – 11/15/2020

The publication published by blogger Bolsonarista Oswaldo Eustáquio this Sunday (15) affirms that the attempted attack by a hacker on the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) system “reveals the fraud at the polls with the stamp of the electoral Justice.” Eustáquio is one of the main defendants in the investigation of fake news that is processed in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). And the information in this post is false.

The blogger cites as a source former federal deputy Cristiane Brasil (PTB), who allegedly said that the attack confirms that “the valid votes and those of those who justify are in a different database” and that, therefore, “they can download the votes of those who will justify the left. “

According to the TSE, the text “lacks factual adequacy or reasonableness for numerous reasons.” The court says there is no way for absentee voters to be “transferred” to any candidate, since those voters did not vote. “The electronic ballot box only computes the votes that were actually received, entered by those who went to the voting table and had their access released after identification by the electoral officials,” the TSE explained in a note.

The court says the justifications are computed in the National Voter Registry, another database. Thus, if a voter justifies his vote and still shows up at the polls, the crossing of these data detects the irregularity. In these cases, “the Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Electoral Justice – in its function of supervisor of the cadastre – may adopt measures to investigate the fact.”

The “totalization” system is unified and counts all votes, abstentions and justifications. In the note, the TSE explains that “all this information is treated in the same totalization system, duly audited and with a digital signature sealed in a public hearing with the participation of political parties, the Public Ministry and the Brazilian Bar Association.

The court also indicates that each of the electronic voting machines issues a bulletin with the votes collected throughout the day. “Thus, an eventual attempt to change the database would be quickly identified with a simple Urn Bulletin conference, which is printed and delivered to the representatives of the political parties present at the polling places and then made available on the Internet” says the TSE.

Understand how the Brazilian electronic ballot box works.
