On the night of the last Wednesday (24), Palms me America-MG they stayed at 1 to 1, in São Paulo, for the exit of the semifinals of the Brazil Cup.

After a nervous start by the São Paulo team, which saw Ademir open up Emerson Santos’ goal error, Verdão tied at the end of the first stage, with Gustavo Gómez.

In search of the fifth final of the Copa do Brasil in its history, Palmeiras accumulates history in the national competition, which causes some coincidences to appear over the years, both good and bad.

In the 2020/2021 edition, two factors point to benefits and difficulties for the São Paulo team.

The first is the fact that Saint Paul be on the other side of the key. Such a coincidence occurred in the 2012 and 2015 seasons. Interestingly, on both occasions, Tricolor ended up eliminated in the semi-final phase and also saw the archrival lift the trophy in the final two.

In 2012, São Paulo was eliminated by the Coritiba, while Palmeiras secured the place above the Guild. Three years later, it was the turn of Saints pass over São Paulo with two victories. On the other hand, Verdão beat Fluminense, on penalties, to go to the decision.

However, there is a factor that is not usually very positive for Palmeiras when it comes to the Copa do Brasil: the fact of playing the second match of the semifinal outside of São Paulo. With four finals on his resume, Palmeiras qualified for the big Copa do Brasil out-of-state decision in the 1996 edition alone.

After beating Grêmio in the first leg 3-1, Verdão lost in Olímpico 2-1, but due to the positive balance, he guaranteed a place in the grand final. But, the team finished runner-up after losing to Cruzeiro, in Palestra Itália, 2-1.

But, in the other three editions in which he was a finalist and won the title, Palmeiras decided the classifications in São Paulo.

In 1998, after two games with Santos, Verdão took the place within Morumbi. Later, in 2012, the classification was carried out after eliminating Grêmio in Arena Barueri.

And in 2015, with Allianz Parque ready, Palmeiras eliminated Fluminense, on penalties, to go to the final and be three-time champion over Santos.

This time, in 2020, the São Paulo team again makes a semifinal decision away from São Paulo. To eliminate América-MG, a simple victory is enough. A new tie, whatever it may be, will take the dispute to penalties.
