INSS benefits will be readjusted; See how much you will receive in 2021

The Ministry of Economy, through the Budget Law Project (PLOA), defined the minimum wage in 2021, which ranges from R $ 1,045 to R $ 1,067. As a result, the benefits of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) will increase by 2.10% as of January 1, 2021.

In this way, retirees, pensioners and members of the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC) will receive an increase in their benefit. The ceiling paid in Social Security, for example, will go from R $ 6,101.06 to R $ 6,229.18.

However, this increase will not be actual earnings. This is because the minimum wage was readjusted only based on inflation data for 2020, in order to preserve purchasing power. Understand!

Minimum wage increase

On April 15, the government proposed that the minimum wage for 2021 be set at R $ 1,079, since the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) was expected to be 3.27%. However, on August 31, the amount was reduced to R $ 1,067, since there was a fall in inflation 2020 due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

This will be the second time that the minimum wage will not have a real increase, although purchasing power has been preserved. However, it should be noted that the proposal, which provides for the amount of R $ 1,067, has not yet been approved by the National Congress, so it may be modified until the end of this year.

How is the minimum wage readjusted?

The correction of the minimum wage, between 2007 and 2019, was made based on Law 13,152, which provided for the readjustment of the value based on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of two previous years and the variation in inflation. Thus, the wage increase occurred whenever there was economic growth.

However, this law became invalid and in 2020 Provisional Measure 919/2020 was signed, which determined the salary for the same year. This MP was converted by deputies and senators in Law 14,013. Since then, the increase in the minimum wage has no real gains.
