A new shipment of IFA (active pharmaceutical ingredient) for the production of 12.2 million doses of vaccines against covid-19 arrived in Brazil on Saturday (27).

The cargo was shipped the day before in Shanghai, China, at 7:30 am local time, and arrived at the Rio de Janeiro International Airport around 6 pm this Saturday, according to GloboNews.

From there, the material went to the Fiocruz unit (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation) in Manguinhos, in Rio.

According to Fiocruz, the new shipment, of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, complements the amount of supplies necessary to produce the 15 million doses of the vaccine scheduled for March.

The first batch of IFA arrived at Fiocruz in the last 6, enough for 2.8 million doses, which are already being processed.

“The vaccines will be delivered to the National Immunization Program (PNI) after granting the registration by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), whose analysis has continued in parallel with production. Until June, the foundation will receive batches of IFA to total the production of 100.4 million doses of the vaccine ”, reported Fiocruz.

After the arrival of the IFA to Fiocruz, samples will be sent for quality control. Then, the final thawing and processing will take place, which takes place in four stages: formulation, filling and sealing, inspection and labeling and packaging. In the formulation, the IFA is thawed and diluted to receive stabilizers, which guarantee the integrity and preservation of the active ingredient.

During the processing of the vaccine, samples are taken from all batches, which are sent for internal quality control to ensure their safety and effectiveness. After the result, the vaccines are delivered for delivery to all Brazilian states.
