Flamengo’s rival in the next round of the Copa Libertadores, Independiente del Valle, will also have absences due to Covid-19. The Ecuadorian club announced on Monday that four players on the squad had tested positive for the disease after undergoing PCR tests last weekend. The athletes were isolated before the delegation’s trip to Rio de Janeiro, where on Wednesday, at 9:30 p.m., the duel for group A will take place in Maracana.

According to a statement from Del Valle, the PCR tests were carried out last Saturday, shortly after the duel against Barcelona de Guayaquil, with four positive results. The club then tried to call the Ecuadorian health authorities, as well as the national league and Conmebol, in addition to the teams that faced the team in the last week: Junior Barranquilla and Barcelona.
