The first preliminary map of Controlled Distancing in 2021 brings, once again, the extremely high risk classification to Rio Grande do Sul. In the map of this round 35, published this Friday 1, the Covid de Bagé region returns to the black flag, two rounds in lighter flags (red and orange, respectively).
The very high risk in Bagé is the result of the combination of the worsening number of free beds / Covid patients in the South macro-region and the fact that the region has a black flag in the hospitalization indicator for every 100,000 inhabitants, which culminated in the activation of the new Controlled distancing rule: the protection of red and black flags, when a region registers many new hospitalizations of patients with Covid-19 and, at the same time, has low hospital capacity in the macro-region. See the full explanation of the new rule below.

The state’s situation regarding the coronavirus still requires a lot of attention. There are 13 red flag regions (high epidemiological risk). Under the orange flag, which represents medium risk, there are seven regions: Santa María, Uruguaiana, Taquara, Novo Hamburgo, Guaíba, Cruz Alta and Erechim. The two that did not adhere to the co-management system, Guaíba and Uruguaiana, are in the orange flag in this round.
Implementation of red and black flag safeguards
Starting this week, Controlled Distancing uses a new rule that guarantees high and very high risk flags (red and black flags) when the region has a high number of new hospitalizations for confirmed Covid-19 patients (depending on the region of residence patient)) and, at the same time, it is inserted in a macro-region with low hospital capacity.
This refinement in the model is necessary, because when the hospital capacity approaches the limit, the indicators of “progress speed” and “variation of service capacity” deteriorate, since, despite the demand for beds, they can It won’t fill up due to overcrowding of Covid areas of hospitals. This improvement aims to better reflect and prevent exhaustion of the beds.
