The federal prosecutor Ailton Benedito de Souza is the same one who, in May, signed a recommendation for the Goiás government and 119 mayors to adopt an early treatment with chloroquine, contraindicated by the scientific society.

The scientific entity, which groups together specialists from the medical discipline dedicated to the study and treatment of diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, protozoa, etc., published an official document with updates and recommendations that contraindicate drug treatment on Wednesday (9). for the disease, in which the use of chloroquine stands out.
In the document, infectologists recommend that doctors do not prescribe the use of chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, azithromycin, nitazoxanide. This therapeutic approach, strongly advocated by Jair Bolsonaro and his followers, does not benefit the treatment of people with Covid-19. The list also includes treatments based on corticosteroids, zinc, vitamins, anticoagulants, rectal ozone and chlorine dioxide.
“The randomized clinical trials with a control group that have existed so far have not shown any benefit and, in addition, some of these drugs can cause side effects. In other words, there is no scientific evidence that these drugs are effective against Covid-19 ”, says part of the recommendations.
Chloroquine protocol
In the area of Civil Investigation No. 1.18.000.000947/2020-82, opened on the same day as the publication of the SBI document, the attorney-in-fact requests a copy of the documents that prove the entity’s prerogative to issue charges, as well as studies that support the recommendation of antipyretics and analgesics. In addition, he questions the scientific entity about the knowledge of Technical Note 17 of the Ministry of Health, last August, which institutes a protocol for the use of chloroquine. And if the studies mentioned in the note are not considered by infectologists.
Souza also requests a declaration of the absence of conflict of interest by the president of the entity and the board of directors with companies that are developing, producing or selling medicines, vaccines, supplies and equipment destined to face the pandemic.
Wanted for the report, the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases did not comment. Through his press office, he reported that he is taking all the appropriate legal measures.
