April was a month of confinement! Due to COVID-19, many have had to stay home to respect their country’s state of emergency. Such a scenario has given many people time to experiment and learn new things!
Interestingly, in this period, Linux’s market share doubled and Windows … fell!
Windows 10 is by far the most widely used operating system worldwide. There is almost no competition at the desktop level, but it is important to highlight what other operating systems have accomplished.
Linux doubles its market share ...
As you can see in the following image, Windows market share is 86.2%, according to the Netmarketshare. In the second position macOS appears with 9.75% and the third position is for Linux, with 2.8%.
In the case of the latter, it should be noted that in March the market share was "only"1.36%. In April, the value shot up to 2.87%.
Interestingly, Windows 10 market share fell from 57.34% (in March) to 56%. The use of Windows 7 also fell from 26.3% to 25.59%. Compared to macOS, Apple's desktop operating system had a market share of 9.75% in March, falling to 8.94% in April.
And at the browser level?
In this segment there are not many new features. Google Chrome continues to be the most widely used browser with a market share of 69.18%. Next up is Microsoft's Edge browser with 7.76%. In third place is Firefox 7.25%.
Given the numbers, it's important to note that Windows 10 leads the competition by far. Linux shows signs of being alive, although the usage percentage is very low. In the field of browsers, the highlight is Firefox, which continues to lose pedaling.
Regarding Linux, we suggest you try the latest version of Ubuntu. It's really nice!
