None of the units was equipped with mechanical ventilation equipment that could overcome the pulmonary embolism, responsible for the death of the pilot.
In an emotional audio, sent to Renato’s friends, his brother, the doctor Rogério Rivera, narrated what happened since the policeman began to feel short of breath, around 0:30 on Tuesday. “Yesterday he felt bad and began to feel like he was short of breath. He was very agitated, wanting air, wanting air. We called Samu’s ambulance and it didn’t take long. They tried to apply all the rescue possibilities here at home and we took him to the ambulance, ”he said.
Renato was taken by Samu’s team in the company of his relatives to Upa da Tijuca, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. “We were testing hospitals and everyone was full. We ended up at the UPA of Tijuca, which had no vacancy. On the way he was receiving oxygen, very agitated, taking off his access and struggling on the stretcher. Then we went to the UPA in Botafogo, ”he said.
The agent’s condition began to worsen and Renato’s nephew gave him a heart massage to try to revive him after a cardiac arrest. When he arrived at the second UPA, this time in the Botafogo neighborhood, the policeman was taken directly to the red room.
“They tried everything, everything, but, unfortunately, he decided to fly. But that’s it, in the end, it was his choice. Thank you for the strength of all those present. I can only thank you, ”he said.
