Coach Rogério Ceni spoke about his arrival at Flamengo. In a video published by TV Fla on Tuesday (17), the former goalkeeper revealed that he was surprised by the proposal to replace the Spanish Domènec Torrent and said that he made an “exception” to take over Rubro-Negro.
“For me it was a surprise. With the success of an external technician in Flamengo [em 2019], I was not expecting an invitation at this time. But, the Monday following Domènec’s dismissal, the people of Flamengo got in touch, ”he said.
“I didn’t want to start a job in the middle of the season. But the only exception that I would open, and I had already spoken with my coaching staff, would be a proposal from Flamengo. Then we started talking. It was a fantastic job proposal. Being here has nothing to do with it. to do with economics, but yes, for the opportunity to be champion. From there, I decided that the way would be to wear red and black, “he added.
Ceni took over at Flamengo after more than two years at the helm of Fortaleza, interrupted only for a short time as Cruzeiro coach. Before that, he began his career off the field in São Paulo.

Interestingly, he faced the Morumbi team in his debut for Fla – defeat 2-1, in a first leg in the quarterfinals of the Brazil Cup. Last Saturday, the team drew 1-1 with Atlético-GO.
