The town of Santa Clara, about eight kilometers from the center of Bom Retiro, recorded the hail rain with the greatest intensity. Drivers driving through the area at the time of rain tried to pick up their cars from a gas station and the area turned white with ice.
A colder air mass entered southern Brazil. With the upper parts of the atmosphere cooled and more warming at the surface and in the lower and middle layers of the atmosphere there is convection (upward movement of the air) that formed charged clouds that brought hail. These are very isolated events associated with very localized clouds, as seen last year in a historic hail storm in Curitiba.
