If cases drop 60% in Belo Horizonte, I’ll open the city tomorrow, says Kalil

The mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil (PSD), said he would open the city tomorrow if hospitalizations fall by 60% as in Israel, which is proportionally the country with the most vaccinated in the world. More than 3 million people have already received the vaccine.

“The numbers [de casos, mortes e internações pela covid-19] at BH they are falling, but not as fast as they should. I think the trade itself understood that it will need a gradual opening. Nobody wants to die, not now that the vaccine is coming, “Kalil said during the UOL interview, directed by columnist Josias de Souza and reporter Amanda Rossi.

“The vaccine is there. In Israel, hospitalizations dropped 60%. If in BH they drop 60%, I will open the city tomorrow.”

On January 6, the Belo Horizonte City Council decreed the closure of non-essential businesses due to the increase in cases. Since then, businessmen have pushed for the reopening.

“The blockade was carried out by Paris, the blockade is only a national expression. We did the essential, we closed what we could. There are things that cannot be closed unless you lead to chaos,” he said.

Using Israel as an example, Kalil also said he was 200% confident in the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine.

‘Presidents were jailed for less’

Kalil also criticized the administration of the Jair Bolsonaro government (without a party). “We were very poorly managed in the case of the pandemic. It would be very cretinous to think that the government of Brazil took this pandemic as it should be done.”

Presidents were disrespectfully jailed for much less. Nothing is more important than a life

“I think everyone [gestores envolvidos] must be investigated. This business of taking the governor and the mayor who bought expensive respirators is very little for what happened in that country. [A pandemia] It is the greatest tragedy that happened here ”, declared the mayor.

Criticism extended to the election of General Eduardo Pazuello as Minister of Health.

In military governments, in all military governments, the ministers were doctors.

Chloroquine

The mayor of BH said he heard from his son, orthopedist Felipe Kalil, that currently no doctor is going to jeopardize his professional record by prescribing chloroquine, even in the Army, as an early treatment for COVID-19.

Kalil said he faced pressure to adopt the “covid kit” at BH and hinted at resistance to face the charges.

The pressure is on all human beings, it is not a thing. It’s like temperament, character, that’s pressure.

“Those who honked the horn, passed by, cursed, went to my door on Sunday … I told my wife: ‘This will only end when I start stacking the coffin, it will be over, because we prevented ourselves, we were the first city to close. “Then, when that tragedy began in Manaus, the horn ended. The pressure comes a lot from the person. I am of that theory: don’t push, which is worse.”

‘The victory of the SP government is clear’

Kalil estimates that the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), was victorious in the wrestling match with the federal government over vaccination policy.

That the victory of the São Paulo government was clear and clear, no one has any doubt, right. What I said at the beginning: This game is over, everyone is in the locker room showering. That drink has already been taken.

‘I will not make the party with someone else’s money’

Kalil also stated that he did not take photos with the first vaccinated people in Belo Horizonte “for consistency”: “I did not force the bar for the vaccine,” he declared.

Am I going to celebrate with someone else’s money, to celebrate for those who really encouraged it, which was the government of São Paulo?

However, the mayor of BH said he did not rule out the possibility of making it widely known when it comes to getting vaccinated, publishing videos and photos.

I intend to help with the credibility of the vaccine. I think it is an important act [divulgar o prefeito tomando vacina], because you don’t skip a line, you don’t do anything wrong and you can take some people. You have a leadership that won an election in the first round, you have to imagine that people have a little confidence in you.
