The wave of outrage that emerged after the murder of José Alberto Freitas, in a Carrefour supermarket in Porto Alegre, raises an urgent need: to recognize the evil of racism and take effective measures to combat it.
João Alberto was 40 years old. He was the son of John the Baptist, an evangelical pastor. He lost his mother 3 years ago. He has four children from previous relationships and a granddaughter. He lived with Milena, his current partner, near the Carrefour supermarket where he was murdered. The widow spoke this Sunday (22) with the Fantastic. When asked how he sees life in the future, he says, “I don’t know how to talk about it.”
José Alberto’s father also spoke with our team. The day of the murder he received a call from his daughter-in-law and ran to the supermarket: “I have already reached the end of the thing. The doctor tried to revive him and he no longer showed signs of life. I don’t know what could have generated a situation as crude as the from there. Why would they attack with such rage? That rage, yes, that force of rage comes from an act of racism. I just want justice to be done. That’s all. Pay for what they did to him. ”
