As it says in the lyrics of Hair on the comb, Alceu Valença walked through the streets of the past. But without leaving home. The 73-year-old singer and songwriter is guarded at his residence in Rio de Janeiro and quarantines the guitar, recalling songs that stimulate memories of the places he has been. “I spend all my time traveling in these stories,” says Alceu.

This Sunday, May 3, at 6 pm, he performs live through his YouTube channel in support of an action to distribute resources to music professionals who are not working due to the quarantine. In this interview, Alceu talks about the current moment and explains why his work spans generations.

What is your assessment of Brazil at the moment? We are going through this pandemic and I do the opposite of what the President says. When he says to go to the street, I don’t, I stay inside the house. Is it influenzazinha? No, the flu is strong. Many people are dying.
