The Nova 5T was introduced by Huawei in August 2019, reaching the market only in mid-October. Being basically a renowned version of the Honor 20, the device landed on Brazilian soil last week for R $ 2,999, which in theory is a very attractive price for the included set.
But is it really a good option in practice? The time has come for us to start discovering it.

More news
Huawei included 3,750 mAh of battery in the Nova 5T, which ends up below the 4,000 mAh average that has become standard since the second half of 2019, but taking into account the good energy efficiency observed in the Kirin 980 in our tests with Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro we can expect at least a day of moderate use without major problems.
The test is standardized, following the same metric that we always use on devices that pass through our banks. In it, we run various popular apps, games, and services on scheduled cycles until the battery is completely depleted, providing a wait time between cycles so we can monitor consumption in the background.
Results
After a full day of testing the Nova 5T battery, we got the following results:
- It took 16 hours and 41 minutes to completely drain the battery;
- The screen stayed on for 8 hours and 50 minutes;
- We conducted 12 complete test cycles that included:
- 72 minutes of browsing in Chrome;
- 360 minutes of WhatsApp, Spotify, offline music, offline video and YouTube (72 minutes each);
- 72 minutes of games (Pokémon Go, Subway Surfers and Asphalt 8);
- 72 minutes from Facebook, Gmail and Google Maps (20 minutes each);
- 48 minutes of voice calls through the mobile network;
- Standby consumption was close to 1% every hour;
- The temperature was between 23 ° and 37 ° C;
- Injustice was the application that loaded more;
- WhatsApp was the least consumed application;
- The 22.5W charger that came in the box took 1 hour and 17 minutes to fully fill the 3,750mAh battery.
Completed
The Nova 5T didn’t even come close to the autonomy found in higher-end models with more robust capacity, like Zenfone 6 and Huawei’s own P30 Pro, but at least the capacity included by the manufacturer was enough to offer a life similar to the one we have in Two of the main devices of 2019: Galaxy S10 and iPhone 11.
This means that you will be able to get to the end of the day with some load if your usage pattern is moderate or more basic, only with access to social networks and web browsing, but if your idea is to play all the time, it is good to have a plug or socket. Power bank nearby.
The good news is that the charger delivered by Huawei in the box of the Nova 5T really delivers on its promise, providing over 50% of battery capacity in just 30 minutes and taking just over 1 hour to fully fill the device. With that, it is only behind the P30 Pro among the mentioned models, being almost three times faster than the iPhone 11.
It is worth mentioning that since the device received Android 10 as soon as it arrived in Brazil, we decided to carry out the test soon with the latest version of the system, so if it is still with Android 9, autonomy may present different results .
