It was intended as a trilogy.

Rumors have long been circulating about a new Horizon Zero Dawn, but it seems that with each passing week speculation about a PlayStation 5 sequel begins to intensify.

Since April 2019, a Horizon Zero Dawn 2 has been suggested, and that’s precisely what VGC is doing again, which it says has been briefed on the development of that game.

VGC says that several sources, who prefer to remain anonymous, have informed them that Sony Interactive Entertainment has given the green light to Guerrilla Games to develop Horizon Zero Dawn 2, after the resounding success of the first one.

Horizon Zero Dawn was considered a 3-part story, but only the strong debut of the first game on PlayStation 4 managed to guarantee the creators to move forward with this plan.

In two years, more than 10 million units have been sold and the game will also have a PC version in the summer, which may attract more players to this universe.

Development of Horizon Zero Dawn 2 took off shortly after the first became a hit, as suggested by Janina Gavankar, but the plan to release it on PS4 has changed and the game will reach the next generation.

Sources described Horizon Zero Dawn 2 as a gigantic game, with a much larger open world and greater freedom of exploration than it had in the first game. Also, Guerrilla Games is thinking of including a cooperative feature, but it can be presented in a separate mode and not exactly in the campaign.

Sony had already assured that the Horizon Zero Dawn property would not be forgotten and that it had plans for it. Among them is the use of the cooperative idea, planned for the original, but which had to be omitted.
