A historic heat wave is expected to reach and cause temperatures above 40 ° C in the south, midwest and southeast of Brazil this week, MetSul Meteorologia warns. In Rio Grande do Sul, especially in the Northwest and North regions, the mark must be exceeded. In Santa Rosa, the maximum should be between 39 ° C and 40 ° C this Thursday.
Elsewhere in Brazil, the expectation is that absolute records of peak values will fall and marks will be among the highest ever recorded in decades or since the temperature was recorded. In São Paulo, it can be between 37ºC and 39ºC, the highest mark ever analyzed in the São Paulo capital is 37.8 ° C, in 2014. In the interior, the maximum values must exceed 44 ° C.
In central Brazil, in Cuiabá, the temperature should reach 43 ° C, with a large mass of hot, dry air covering the region for the next few weeks.
MetSul emphasizes that heat with such intensity will drive fire risk to critical and emergency values with very high numbers of fires in the Midwest, Southeast and the northernmost part of South Brazil.
