On World Book Day, HiSense made official three new smartphones with electronic ink displays, two of them with the long-awaited colored electronic ink display, promised since CES2020. They are all part of the A5 family, one with the Snapdragon 439 chipset, the A5C and the other two A5Pro with the UNISOC T610 platform.
Found in, among other products, Amazon’s Kindle e-Reader, electronic ink displays use one type of electronic ink technology and only consume power when the displayed items change. It is as if she prints the image every time the user interacts. In the case of color screens, which reach a smartphone for the first time, the support reaches 4,069 different colors.
The HiSense A5C has only one color electronic ink display and works with the mentioned Qualcomm chipset. It is a basic model, with 4 GB of RAM and a 5.84-inch color screen and with electronic ink technology, which consumes less energy to operate, since it does not emit light.
Since it is a cell phone with only a color electronic ink screen, which does not feature as many colors as an LCD or LED screen, the device is not ideal for watching videos or playing games, for example. Furthermore, the screen refresh rate is insufficient for this, as you can see from the previous manual (in Chinese, but the images are enough to give an idea).
The autonomy of this device can reach 93 hours of use with the screen brightness off, and 62 hours with the maximum brightness, according to the manufacturer, and will be available to the Chinese consumer from April 29 for approximately US $ 240 (R $ 1,342). A good option for those who only surf the Internet, like to read a lot on their cell phones and seek incredible autonomy.

A5Pro
Two other models with an electronic ink display were also announced, one with a black-and-white screen and the other with color, and with a higher refresh rate than the A5C. They are A5Pro and A5Pro CC, both with UNISOC platform, fingerprint reader and availability only for June.
The characteristics are basically the same in both models. 5.84-inch electronic ink display, same size as A5C, but with a higher refresh rate of 136 ms. The UNISOC T610 platform has an eight-core processor that can reach 1.8 GHz and the models still have a separate speaker, two SIM card slots, and run Android 10. They also have a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera, plus NFC support and USB-C connector.
The main difference is in the screen, which is colored in the CC model. Both have a 4,000 mAh battery and 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, while the color screen model still has an option with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of space.
They are still models aimed at the user who mainly wants to read a smartphone. Playing and watching videos are not tasks e-ink screens are prepared for, if they ever get there. The great advantage is that, in addition to greater reading comfort, these screens consume much less load.
The A5Pro reaches the Chinese market only in June, at a suggested price of US $ 225 (approximately R $ 1,258), while the CC model costs US $ 255 (R $ 1,426) with 4/64 GB and US $ 280 (R $ 1,566)) with 6/128 GB.
