BRASÍLIA – The mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), said on Tuesday that the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, is a “disaster” for the country and for the government itself. The deputy also said that the logistics of the Army, with which General Pazuello is accustomed, is different from that necessary for Health. Maia also criticized the minister’s statement which, on Wednesday, challenged the “anxiety” of the population for the Covid-19 vaccination to begin.
Brazil: On Christmas Eve, Covid-19 advances, but the population does not retract
– The Minister of Health is a disaster. First for the country and also for the government. Society and the medical field began to understand each other. In the midst of the pandemic, with the Ministry of Health as it is, society pays the bill first, the mayor said in a cafe with journalists.
Maia also said that Pazuello’s performance will also be negative for the image of the military.
– With the disaster that is the Minister of Health, the military will lose what they gained in image in recent years after the redemocratization. Without a doubt, Pazuello is a great general for Army logistics, but for Health logistics he is a disaster.
Bolsonaro: ‘If any of us overreacted, it was in an effort to find a solution,’ says the president when launching the vaccination plan
Maia also said that the training of the military makes political action difficult because they are trained to “command” and not to “lead”, and that this generates disorganization in the Plateau, because there is a lack of “experience to know how to deal with Parliament.” Despite the criticism, Maia said that he admires Generals Luiz Eduardo Ramos (Minister of the Government Secretariat) and Braga Netto (Minister of the Civil House).
– I think they are trying to get the best of them, with all the difficulty of being close to the president.
The mayor’s office: For Maia, the government encourages the candidacy of the left
Maia again criticized Pazuello for the minister’s statement, on Wednesday, that there is “anxiety” and “anguish” of the population for the Covid-19 vaccination to begin.
– Pazuello, when he had Covid, was admitted to the best hospital in Brasilia and then spent a day under supervision in the military hospital. The president (Jair Bolsonaro), as he had done, remained in hospitals every day being monitored. When I had it, I received excellent private care. Maybe that’s why he (Pazuello) thinks that Brazilians are “too anxious.” But millions of Brazilians do not have the conditions that we had. Private hospitals are full and public hospitals lack the necessary structure.
