THE Ministry of Health sent a letter to the ambassador of porcelain on Monday (8) citing the risk of missing doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 they end up stopping the vaccination, and asking for help to “find out” if the pharmaceutical company Sinopharm has the availability of 30 million doses to supply to Brazil. The information is from TV Globo.

In December 2020, Sinopharm announced that the immunizer BBIBP-CorV, which is not among the negotiated or surveyed doses announced by the ministry, is 79.3% effective.

The letter of request for assistance was signed by the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Elvio Franco, and sent to Ambassador Yang Wanming.

“The national immunization campaign, however, runs the risk of being interrupted due to lack of doses, given the shortage of international supply. For this reason, the Ministry of Health has been seeking to establish contact with new providers, in particular Sinopharm, whose vaccine has proven to be effective against Covid-19, ”says Franco.

“Subject: Sinopharm – supply of doses of BBIBP-CorV vaccine.

Mr. Ambassador,

1. Brazil today faces a new variant of the coronavirus, known as P1, which has been shown to be infectious and capable of rapidly evolving into a serious clinical condition. The Ministry of Health is aware of the importance of containing this strain and preventing it from spreading throughout the world, aggravating the pandemic.

2. The main Brazilian strategy to contain the pandemic and, in particular, this P1 variant is to intensify vaccination. To date, more than 9 million people have been vaccinated.

3. The national immunization campaign, however, runs the risk of being interrupted due to lack of doses, given the shortage of international supply. Because of this, the Ministry of Health has been looking to establish contact with new providers, in particular Sinopharm, whose vaccine has been shown to be effective against Covid-19.

4. In this context, I would appreciate the good offices of Your Excellency in investigating the possibility that Sinopharm could supply 30 million doses of the BBIBP-CorV vaccine, on a schedule and price to be agreed, if possible, for the first semester of 2021, with the possibility of additional quantities for the second half of this year.

5. The Ministry of Health appreciates all the attention and assistance that the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brazil and Sinopharm can provide to Brazil at this time, to increase the supply of immunizers within the framework of the National Plan for the Operationalization of the Vaccination Against Covid. – 19.

Respectfully,

ANTÔNIO ELCIO FRANCO FILHO

Executive Secretary “
