“He screamed that he could not breathe,” says friend of black man murdered in Porto Alegre supermarket | Rio Grande do Sul

Freitas was beaten by white security guards and died in a Carrefour unit. The images of the attack were recorded and disseminated on social networks (see video above).

“That video over there, man, shows all the aggression he had before he died. In addition to assaulting him, they gave him a naked rear strangulation, they strangled him, people asked him to let him go, to let him breathe, because he was screaming. Whoever He couldn’t breathe, he wouldn’t let go, when they did he was already purple, he was already out of breath, ”says Paulão Paquetá, a friend of the victim.

Paulão lives in the same neighborhood as João Alberto. He says he went to the supermarket to buy and, upon arrival, saw his friend being beaten.

“[Cheguei] when they were attacking. They had already taken the cell phone from the motoboys. We couldn’t film. It was very safe, “says Paulão.

“We had no way of doing [nada]. We then demonstrated with the arrival of the Military Brigade ”, he adds.

The cause of death is not yet known, but according to delegate Roberta Bertoldo, a preliminary analysis of the expertise indicates suffocation.

João’s wife told the police that the two went shopping at the supermarket and that, after gesturing to an inspector, João was taken from the market, where they beat him to death.

The two suspects, one 24 and the other 30, were arrested on the spot. One of them is a military policeman and was transferred to a military prison. The other is a security store and is located in a Civil Police building. The investigation treats the crime as a qualified homicide.

According to the Civil Police, the military policeman worked as a security guard in a supermarket. In a statement, the Military Brigade said the prime minister involved in the assault was “temporary” and was outside of police work hours.

The Military Brigade reported that the beating began after a disagreement between the victim and an employee of the supermarket, which is located in the North Zone of the state capital. The victim allegedly threatened to beat the employee, who called security.

Carrefour said in a note that it deeply regrets the case, that it has launched a rigorous internal investigation and has taken steps to ensure that those responsible are legally punished.

The chain, which attributed the attack to the security guards, also described the act as criminal and announced the breach of the contract with the company responsible for the aggressor employees.

Video of the assault has been circulating on social media since Thursday night. The police will analyze the images from the posted video and also from the site’s security cameras.

In the images circulating on the networks, you can see two men dressed in black, which appears to be the uniform of the security guards, hitting the victim in the face, who is already on the floor. A woman close to them appears to film the action of the attackers. Then, with blood already spilled on the ground, other people appear around the beaten man, while the two attackers continue trying to mobilize him on the ground.

A team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) tried to revive the man after he was beaten, but he died on the spot.

The crime is being investigated by the Homicide and Personal Protection Police (DHPP) in Porto Alegre.
