English driver Lewis Hamilton won his seventh championship on Sunday (15) in Turkey. After starting sixth, after a difficult qualifying session due to track conditions in Istanbul, he took the lead in another incredible race.

Hamilton now equals Michael Schumacher’s record with seven championships. The pilot was moved, cried, after surprising again. The result, unexpected due to the difficult asphalt conditions on the track, was unexpected even for Mercedes, who tweeted: “If you just woke up, Lewis leads the Turkish Grand Prix. We don’t know how he did it either.” The pilot said:

“It is very important that children see this. Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you cannot achieve something. Dream the impossible. Talk to him. You have to work for it, pursue it and never give up,” he said.

“I am speechless. A big thank you to the team. To the LH team for being with me all these years. And to my family. This is a path, far beyond our dreams,” concluded the Englishman.

Ride starts on pole and finishes ninth

Lance Stroll took pole position on Saturday (14) for the first time in his career. On Sunday, he held the lead for more than half of the race: the wet track was allied with the Racing Point driver for most of the competition.

However, after deciding to change the tires by the team, the rider fell to sixth place and could not recover. On the way to boxing, Racing Point opted for intermediate tires, which caused Stroll to slow down. The pilot finished the race in ninth place.

The Turkish Grand Prix was marked by Vettel’s impressive start. The driver started 11th, but reached third place and achieved his first podium in the 2020 season. Ferrari stood out in this Sunday’s competition: in addition to Vettel, Leclerc advanced and finished the race in fourth place.

Right at the beginning, Bottas was involved in an incident – he was the first of many to come. The driver raced more than six times at different points and finished the race in 14th place.

Tricky track

Track conditions in Istanbul were unanimous for the riders. Lewis Hamilton said on Saturday he was satisfied with sixth place because “the conditions were horrible and I got the most out of the car.”

The asphalt of the Turkish track was redone for a stage that was initially not on the calendar, but which was confirmed at the end of August as one of the tests that would replace the GPs canceled by the coronavirus.

These alternate GPs have special conditions: one of them is the possibility of making improvements paid for by Formula 1 itself. And the Turks, as well as the promoters of the Portuguese GP, decided that it was necessary to recapitulate the track and, also of the same The way Portimão happened, that happened a few weeks before the race and after Pirelli had already produced the tires that would take to the GP.

New asphalt releases oil, which is enhanced when it rains. That is why the drivers were suffering at Portimão and also had problems at Silverstone two years ago. It is normal for this to happen when a track resumes well above the event. But there is also the question of whether the type of asphalt selected was the most appropriate for the track.
