The Vice President of the Republic, Hamilton Mourão, 67, tested positive for Covid-19 this Sunday (27), according to a statement released by the press office.

Mourão will be isolated at the Jaburu Palace, an official residence of the vice president.

According to the Vice Presidency, the result was confirmed this Sunday afternoon. The note was delivered by staff at night and does not contain details about Mourão’s health status and what symptoms he had (read the note posted at the end of this article).

Wanted by GloboNews, the press office said the vice president is fine.

According to a survey conducted by the media consortium, 191,146 people diagnosed with Covid-19 died in Brazil. Since the start of the pandemic, 7,481,400 Brazilians have been infected by the virus.

With the diagnosis, Mourão joins an extensive list of politicians who contracted the coronavirus.

All the heads of government have already been infected and have recovered from the disease. President Jair Bolsonaro announced a positive result for Covid-19 in July.

Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), president of the Senate, contracted the disease in March and Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), president of the Chamber, in September.

Also in September, Minister Luiz Fux, president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), was diagnosed with the coronavirus, days after assuming the presidency of the Court.

In October, Senator Arolde de Oliveira (PSD-RJ) died at the age of 83, as a result of Covid-19, in Rio de Janeiro.
