The dream of a life in America. An out of focus place for the three teenagers to study, carefree. That was Gugu Liberato’s plan until his death in November 2019, in an accident at his home in Orlando, Florida.
Gugu’s children moved there with their mother, Rose Miriam, in July 2015. In 2016, Rose Miriam applied for a green card, the permanent residence visa, for herself and her children.
There are several ways to get a green card. One is to invest a sum in the United States. Under the 2016 rules, that amount was $ 500,000. One of the requirements of the US government is to prove the origin of the money. Gugu made a donation of this amount to Rose, all documented. And that’s where the new chapter of this story begins.
Gugu case: understanding a new element in the inheritance dispute and remembering the main moments
In the process for the Green Card application there is a statement from Gugu to the US immigration authorities. The document, in English, was submitted to a sworn translation, registered before a notary, at the request of Rose’s defense. The declaration was signed by Augusto Liberato. And in it Gugu says that he had a fortune of more than 200 million reais.
And the translation goes on to say: “I have a partner of many years, Rose Mirian Souza Di Matteo, who is the mother of our three children: João, Marina and Sofia.” The text also says: “I gave 555 thousand dollars from my account for my partner’s personal use.” At the end it says: “I declare that the foregoing is true and correct, as far as I know, under penalty of perjury.”
This week, the defense of Rose Mirian, presented the translation of the document to the Brazilian Justice that analyzes the process of recognition of stable union moved by Rose.
Fantastic has followed the story from the beginning. What is at stake is the fortune that Gugu left behind. After the presenter’s death, the family met to read the will. In it, Gugu divided his fortune like this: 75% for the three children and the rest for the five nephews.
Rose Miriam is not mentioned in the will. Since then, she has fought in court to prove she had a stable union with Gugu, which would entitle her to half of the capital she built while they were together. See the full report in the video above.
