The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said on Wednesday (9) that his “misalignment” with the mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), is “natural” given the differences between them regarding the tax reform proposal.
Guedes commented on the Maia statement that, last week, he claimed that his dialogue with the Ministry of Economy ended after the minister prohibited secretaries from the portfolio from attending a meeting with him.
Guedes also affirmed that the government today has a support base in the Chamber that allows it to “sleep more peacefully”, without having to depend on “a generous and friendly look” and on Maia to see its projects pass through the Chamber.
“We have now [ele e Maia] One or another mismatch, but it is natural because I have to protect the Union. And he, getting a little closer to the tax reform, thinking of the governors and mayors, there is a natural mismatch, “said Guedes.
Sadi: ‘The fight takes a long time’, says about Rodrigo Maia and Paulo Guedes
Regarding the prohibition of ministry technicians from participating in meetings with the mayor, Guedes said:
“I had to tell the mayor the following: ‘look, I can’t be sending my technicians to propose a reform that is totally out of line with what happened and what will happen from now on’.
Guedes also stated that the government has a base of support in the Chamber and that, therefore, its dialogue with the Chamber has changed.
“Now he has leadership, he has a base of government, he has everything right. So, I come here, I talk to them, I no longer need to walk desperately on the Plateau, running from one place to another, asking for God’s love and sometimes ,, being misunderstood, ”said Guedes.
“Now there is a regular way to advance the process, which is this base of government. I mean, the president is sitting there, with the leaders, all there. We speak regularly, every week, then the government can decide and refer in a More appropriately than being a minister depending also on a generous and friendly look, I insist on signing up, our Mayor, Rodrigo Maia, who always helped us, always helped us in all the reforms, “he said.
“Today I sleep more peacefully, because now the government has a political axis,” Guedes added. He said he was “withdrawn” from political negotiations due to the government’s communication with his base. “My volunteering is over,” he said.
