247 – The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, defended the freezing of the salaries of public servants. He understands that the measure is a counterpart to the additional expenses to combat the coronavirus crisis.
Guedes said: “The salary of public officials grew 50% above inflation for years in a row. Could functionalism make a contribution? Could you stay this year and next year without a raise in wages? Could this contribute to Brazil?
The O Globo newspaper report highlights that “Guedes tried to negotiate with Congress to include the freezing of wages in the project to help the Union to the states and municipalities. The proposal, however, has not progressed. According to the minister, the suspension of the adjustments is necessary to contain what he considers the third tower of expenses, after interest and Social Security expenses. “
The minister declared: “these are the three uncontrollable expenses. The third is missing, which is the civil service. You can’t go up like this now. It cannot rise wildly. It is time to make a contribution. We will not examine anyone’s purchasing power. But let’s do the Brazilians a favor: will we be without asking for a raise for two years? Can we ask for that?
