This Monday (23), the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, reported that Brazil should lose 300 thousand formal job vacancies in 2020. Despite the reopening of new job opportunities in recent months, the minister predicts that there will be a slowdown in the employment area until December.
“We may reach the end of this year losing 300 thousand jobs, that is, 20% of what we lost in 2015 and 2016. In the year that we face the greatest crisis in our history, a global pandemic, we will lose between one fifth and one third of the jobs lost in the previous recession ”, said the minister during the virtual seminar Visão do Saneamento, promoted by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan).
According to the minister, there was an average annual loss of around 1.3 million jobs in the recession years of 2015 and 2016.
“Brazil created 500 thousand jobs in July, 250 thousand in August and 313 thousand in September. Is ready to go at any time [os dados de] October. I can’t believe I will continue at such a fast pace. It’s natural for me to slow down, ”he said.
Guedes also affirmed that all Brazilian economic regions and sectors are creating jobs. “The economy returned in V as we expected. IMF [Fundo Monetário Internacional] predicted a 9.5% drop in GDP [Produto Interno Bruto] Brazilian. It will be less than half, ”Guedes said.
