Grêmio maintains 0-0 with São Paulo and goes to the ninth final of the Copa do Brasil

Grêmio is back in the final of the Copa do Brasil. Today (30), in Morumbi, Renato Gaúcho’s team celebrated São Paulo with an application in marking and a good dose of catimba. The scoreless scoreboard confirmed the union advantage, obtained last week, and guaranteed a place in the decision. The rival of the gaucho club will be Palmeiras, who beat América-MG in Belo Horizonte.

Owner of five Copa do Brasil titles, in 1989, 1994, 1997, 2001 and 2016, Grêmio was also in the decisions of 1991, 1993, 1995. Now, with 2020, he reaches the ninth final, a record.

The final drawing for the field command is scheduled for January 14, at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

São Paulo and Grêmio return to the field on January 6, for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. Leader, the Morumbi team visits Red Bull Bragantino and Renato Gaúcho’s team receives the Bay.

Who did it well: Dani Alves and Kannemann

Daniel Alves rode for all the functions of the São Paulo midfield. The 10 jersey floated from the moment the ball reached the defenders’ feet to the most offensive position and closest to the rival area. Despite always appearing as an option to articulate the team, he did not decide on São Paulo.

Grêmio’s number 4 jersey was overwhelming and even gave goldfish in the midst of many players. The jump served to cut the pass and keep the defense protected.

Who disappointed: Juanfran

Juanfran was the one who appeared the least in the Tricolor Paulista attack, in a match in which his team already missed Reinaldo on the left. The full-back was free from Grêmio’s defensive position, but was unable to help his team in the difficult task of dismantling Grêmio’s defense.

Victor Ferraz misses an incredible goal

Grêmio had the best scoring chances. With 10 minutes, Víctor Ferraz made an incredible play. The defender received a ball supported by Diego Souza and, free inside the area, kicked with his left foot. Hit the pole!

“I had a chance there, it bounced and it took me a long time to come down. Was I afraid that someone would come and kick it soon? At some point I came to celebrate the goal, but God did not want it,” Grêmio’s jersey 2 commented to SporTV.

Diego Souza almost made a bicycle

Daniel Alves was pressured inside the area, outside the ball and missed. Diego Souza fought for the second ball and in a split second decided to take a chance. The Grêmio captain repaired a bicycle with force that sent the ball past Tiago Volpi’s left corner.

Grêmio catimba, São Paulo complains

The advantage did not put Grêmio into a slow pace at the start of the match, but around 30 minutes into the first half, discussions about the referees’ decisions began. Fernando Diniz received a reprimand from the referee for questioning Vanderlei’s goal kick.

“Are they falling down a lot, rolling? We thought it was going to be like this,” Tchê Tchê told SporTV at halftime on the field break. “I’m going to blow the whistle to Diego!” Diniz yelled at the start of the second half, shortly after a foul in favor of Grêmio.

Grêmio, for his part, complained about the entries of Daniel Alves and Bruno Alves. The gaucho team did not like the delay of the first yellow card from the opposite side either.

São Paulo does not work with Tchê Tchê

São Paulo without Luciano and with Tchê Tchê lost depth and firepower. Also because of that, he finished only three times in goal until the break and most of the time he had to be slower when attacking. Shirt 8 tried to find spaces, but failed. The best opportunities came from outside the area and with no real danger to Vanderlei’s goal.

Grêmio changes his marking and way of attacking

Grêmio with Lucas Silva and Alisson brought more power and intensity. Renato’s team, however, put aside individual searches and began making exchanges when defending. The timing and dynamics of the strategy had a huge effect. In attack, set pieces, pressure and long shots gave three good opportunities: Víctor Ferraz, Diego Souza and Pepê before the break.

Trellez, Hernanes, Paulinho and Toró

During the second half, São Paulo had even more possession and was very close to the Grêmio area. But it was unable to create spaces or to have the strength to invade and conclude. As time went by, Diniz was putting the attackers to look for the numerical superiority near Vanderlei.

Thaciano and almost a 6-4-0

Thaciano replaced Alisson, but shortly after turned right after Victor Ferraz left. At 36, Renato took Diego Souza and gave the reference in the attack to keep the defense line firm. There was almost no attack, which depended on the speed of Everton and Ferreira off the drawing board.
