The forecast is that the Sputnik V doses will begin to be delivered in November this year, provided there is approval from regulatory agencies in Brazil. Bahia is the second Brazilian state to sign an agreement with Russia for the production of vaccines. The first was Paraná. The association tests should start in October, but they still depend on Anvisa.

HE G1 contacted the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which said that on Friday (11) an announcement would be made about the deal.

The confidentiality agreement with the Russian government also establishes that all scientific information about the vaccine is transmitted to the Bahia Foundation for Scientific Research and Technological Development (Bahiafarma). In practice, the agreement marks an advance in the negotiations between the country and the state, which from now on will be able to access the technology used in the production of the immunizer.

According to Governor Rui Costa, the next step is for the institution to decide whether to proceed with the project. First, the Russian government’s protocol will be presented to the ethics committee of the Couto Maia Institute, then to the National Research Ethics Council (Conepe), in Brasilia, as well as the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

If all those involved in the process approve it, the government plans to begin studying the Russian vaccine in Bahia within a month. The intention is to carry out the clinical trial of 500 participants.

On Friday (4), a study with preliminary results published in the scientific journal “The Lancet”, one of the most important in the world, indicated that Russia’s vaccine for Covid-19 had no adverse effects and induced an immune response. However, with the scientific community suspicious of the tests used in the immunizer, Russian scientists recognized the need for further tests to demonstrate the efficacy of the vaccine.

The immunization has been registered since last month in Russia and the first batch has been released to be applied to the country’s population. The government says the delivery is scheduled for the near future, but has not specified dates.
