This Wednesday (16), the federal government launched the National Plan of Operationalization of the Vaccine against covid-19, making official the document that had already been delivered to the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court Ricardo Lewandowski.
Vaccination against the new coronavirus in Brazil will begin with priority groups, according to the plan presented by President Jair Bolsonaro and Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello. However, there is no date to start it yet.
In the first stage, the most vulnerable people and those with the greatest exposure to Sars-CoV-2 will be included. The forecast is that 51 million Brazilians will be immunized in this phase, which will have 108 million doses (two doses for each person plus a 5% reserve).

According to the government, priority groups should be vaccinated up to four months, when the immunization of the general population begins, I work with an expected duration of 12 months. Therefore, all Brazilians must receive the vaccine within 16 months.
Who is part of the priority group?
Immunization of the priority group will be divided into four phases, serving health workers, people aged 80 and over, people aged 75 to 79 and indigenous people aged 18 and over.
In phase 2, the vaccine will reach people ages 70 to 74, 65 to 69 years, and 60 to 64 years. In phase 3, people over 18 years of age with comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, severe obesity, sickle cell disease, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, as well as transplant patients, will be treated.

Those included in phase 4 are teachers (from elementary to higher level), prison staff, and security and rescue forces. The document indicates that this division is still preliminary and can be modified.
What vaccines will be used?
According to the national vaccination plan, 300 million doses have already been purchased. Of this total, 100.4 million are under the contract with Fiocruz / AstraZeneca and should be available by July 2021. The association also foresees 30 million monthly doses in the second half.
There are still 42.5 million doses available from the Covax Facility global alliance and 70 million that can be supplied by Pfizer (the deal is still being negotiated).

In addition to these, the government previously announced its intention to buy all the vaccines authorized by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). But it is important to remember that the regulatory body has not yet received any application for registration.
How will logistics be?
Guarulhos International Airport (SP) will be the main logistics point for the vaccines, once they are available. There will also be smaller structures in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Recife, as well as road delivery to states close to the distribution centers.
Professionals from the Unified Health System (SUS) will be trained to act in the reception, storage, shipping and distribution of vaccines, syringes and needles, according to the government.
