The São Paulo government announced on Wednesday (24) that it will restrict traffic from 11 pm to 5 am throughout the state.
The move comes after the state reached the highest number of ICU patients admitted with Covid-19 in the entire pandemic. The decree runs from February 26 to March 24.
In addition to the restriction of movement at night, crowding at any time is prohibited. Fines will be imposed for non-compliance with the measures.
Until this second (22), there were 6,410 patients hospitalized in intensive beds. Previously, the highest number had been 6,250 in July 2020.
“It is a historical record since February last year, when we had the first covid case in Brazil and in the state of São Paulo,” said São Paulo State Governor João Doria (PSDB).
The coordinator of the Covid-19 Center and Concurrence, Paulo Menzes, estimates that the increase in the number of hospitalizations was produced by the crowds that occurred during the carnival period, but also by the circulation of the Manaus variant of the new coronavirus in Sao Paul.
“This is probably a consequence of the agglomerations that will take place 10 days ago, but there may be more factors,” said Paulo Menezes.
The state government announced the creation of an inspection work group made up of the municipal and state sanitary surveillance, the Military Police and Procon.
Among the measures announced by the Prime Minister to stop the violations, there will be bombings, complaints with police vehicles and police elements with the support of the Department of Strategic Police Operations (DEOP) of the Civil Police.
Governor João Doria said that the priority of the working group will be to stop the celebration of clandestine parties.
“Anyone who violates the decree commits an infraction for multiple crimes, since it violates the Penal Code, the Consumer Code, the City Council rules and health regulations,” said Fernando Capez, executive director of Procon.
Vaccination
Governor João Doria announced that another 900,000 doses of the Coronavac vaccine – developed by the Chinese laboratory Sinovac in partnership with the Butantan Institute – will be delivered to the Ministry of Health to integrate the national immunization program.
The São Paulo government commits to deliver 15.4 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to the Health portfolio by March 5, for a total of 46 million doses sent to the National Immunization System as of April 30 .
Doria authorized the Butantan Institute to order new shipments of supplies for the production of the Coronavac vaccine. The governor indicated that he will stop doing exclusive business with the Ministry of Health to distribute doses of the immunizer to other states and prioritize the state of São Paulo.
