The government announced, this Tuesday (1), the extension of emergency aid with half the original amount until December.
The accounts were done, the political settlement was missing. The party leaders were called to have coffee at the Palácio da Alvorada. Everyone could speak. And it was with their support and presence that President Jair Bolsonaro made the announcement.
“R $ 600. It is a lot for those who pay, in this case Brazil. And we can say that it is not a sufficient amount for all needs, but basically it works, among other things because the newly defined amount is just over 50% of the minimum wage or better, Bolsa Família. So we decided here, even taking into account the economy, in addition to fiscal responsibility, to set it at R $ 300 ”.
To guarantee the payment of the four new quotas, the government negotiated a commitment with Congress to approve reforms considered fundamental by the economic team.
“It was an excellent meeting. The base of the president and the government made two important decisions: one to extend this layer of protection to the Brazilian population, the president did not leave anyone behind and, within our idea, what can be done with the resources we have, extend by four months the amount of R $ 300 of emergency aid. We are not only looking at the Brazilian population in the short term, but at the entire Brazilian political class thinking about the future of the country and implementing the reforms, ”said Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economy.
The emergency assistance serves informal workers, individual micro-entrepreneurs, the self-employed and the unemployed. It started in April, initially it would go until June, it lasted until August and now it goes until December. Only those who already receive the benefit will be entitled to new fees. No one else can apply. The deadline ended on July 2.
The extension of the emergency aid was authorized through an interim measure, which takes effect immediately, but has not yet been approved by Congress. The amount is within the tax limit. The previous articulation with Congress seeks to avoid changing the amount of the benefit, so much so that, even before the announcement, Bolsonaro summoned the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, closing at R $ 300 by mutual agreement.
“This is the new way we have to articulate politics. First we will wake up with the leaders, then we will announce ”, said Ricardo Barros (PP-PR), government leader in the Chamber.
And the mayor, Rodrigo Maia, has already pledged his support. He said that he will work to approve the text, taking care to serve the most vulnerable without losing control of public accounts.
