In a unanimous decision, the Goiás Court of Justice filed today the complaint of the Public Ministry against Father Robson de Oliveira Pereira. He was accused of money laundering through Afipe (Associação Filhos do Pai Eterno). The decision was made by Judge Nicomedes Domingos Borges and accompanied by the First Criminal Chamber of the Court.
The session took place this afternoon virtually. Father Robson was investigated in Operation Vendilhões, launched by the MPGO (Goiás Prosecutor’s Office), on August 21 of this year. He was suspected of money laundering and crimes of embezzlement, criminal organization, tax evasion and falsehood.
In the decision, the judge Nicomedes stated that there is insufficient evidence that the money donated by the faithful had deviations in purpose. “THE Afipe It is an evangelizing civil association and, to meet your needs, you can create activities as a fundraising instrument “, justified.
The accusation was that the crimes were committed through Afipe, head of the Trindade Basilica (GO).
The association raised donations for the construction of a new basilica in Trindade. The municipality, 23 km from Goiânia, houses the Basilica of the Divine Pai Eterno, which is maintained by Afipe and attracts thousands of faithful. Father Robson held the position of rector of the Basilica, but requested the removal of the command of the entities that he presides linked to the Afipe.
In August, the The Archdiocese of Goiânia temporarily suspended Father Robson de Oliveira’s right to hold celebrations.
Unnecessary exposure, says attorney
The lawyer Pedro Paulo de Medeiros, who defends Father Robson, said in an interview with Twitter, that there was an unnecessary exposure of the religious. He also said that if the Goiás Public Ministry had sought the priest to give explanations, everything would have been clarified.
In turn, the MPGO reported that it will only rule on the case file when it has access to the full resolution.
In a video posted on his social media in August, Father Robson said that all the money raised from donations was used for religious activities.
“Everything is from the first donation, and continues to do so, in Afipe, and it helps us to bring our work of evangelization to the faithful of the world. My heart is calm and confident that everything will be clarified as soon as possible,” he said. .
