Goio Diogo Fernandes de Oliveira’s dream of living and financially stabilizing in the United States was interrupted when he tried to enter the country illegally. “He always had the dream of going to the United States. He was full of plans for him and the girlfriend. His goal was to provide better living conditions for the family, especially for the parents,” said the relative.

Between 2017 and 2019, Diogo Fernandes tried to obtain the visa three times, but failed. He worked as a store manager in a shopping center in Goiânia, which ended up closing due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unemployed and with the dream of a life change, he hired a person to help him on the journey, a role he knew as a coyote, and bought his ticket to Cancun, Mexico.
“There, the coyote that he hired was waiting for him to take him to a reserved place, where a group would wait for the moment of the crossing,” says the relative.
The relative said Diogo planned the trip when he was unemployed. The family says they have no information on who the coyote was.
The relative heard by the report says that Diogo spoke about the crossing, warned about the risks and advised him to wait longer to try to obtain a visa. But according to him, the business manager was determined to go after reading positive reports from people who made the same crossover he tried.
In the United States, friends were eagerly awaiting the arrival of Goiano. The relative explained that some people who live legally in the country offered help with housing and employment.
