According to ANP price history, the week of April 1, 2018 was the last time the value of a liter of gasoline reached its current level. At that time, the minimum value of the liter was sold at R $ 3.63 (the figures used are not adjusted for inflation).

This Monday (27), the report of The Gazette investigated the price of gasoline at 31 service stations in Grande Vitória (see the list at the end of the article). The cheapest liter was found at a service station located at BR 262, in Cariacica (R $ 3.64), which is already the highest value (R $ 3.89), at service stations in three municipalities (Cariacica , Viana and Vitória). The average value between municipalities was R $ 3.73.

If we consider the middle value of the sought fuel The Gazette, the liter of gasoline is approximately 20.6% more affordable than at the beginning of the year. According to ANP data, in the week of January 5, with R $ 100 it was possible to buy 21.3 liters of gasoline (sold at R $ 4.69 / l).

The fall in the prices of gasoline and other petroleum products is directly related to the war between Saudi Arabia and Russia over oil prices and production. In addition to this, another factor also contributes to the value of the fuel remaining at the current level: the lower world demand for the product, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The high volume of the product in stock and the reduction in demand have caused the price of the product to fall. Earlier this year, the price of a Brent barrel, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange and a benchmark for Petrobras and its businesses in Brazil, approached $ 59.57 in January. This Monday, it closed being quoted at $ 23.02. With that, he devalued 61.35% in less than four months

In the midst of this international storm, Petrobras is following a series of cuts in the price of gasoline at its refineries. This is because the price policy practiced by the company is directly linked to the marketing of the product abroad. If the merchandise appreciates, it increases the prices and, with that, the fuel is more expensive for the consumer.

If the opposite happens, it happens in the fall. This is the scenario that has been going on for the past few weeks. Last Friday (24), Petrobras announced a 5% cut in the value of the liter. This retraction comes just two days after it cut prices by 15%.

According to Petrobras, with the new reduction in values, the average price of a liter of gasoline in the refineries will reach R $ 0.91. This is the lowest price charged by the state company since October 31, 2011. Throughout the year, the cumulative drop exceeds 50%.

To make gasoline more affordable for consumers, the entire oil chain needs to transmit changes in values. With the cheapest barrel of oil, Petrobras has been making price cuts at refineries, and with this, fuel reaches, on average, 17.1% cheaper for service stations.
