The Group of the 20 largest economies in the world (G-20), of which Brazil is a member, launched the Covid-19 Tool Access Accelerator in the early hours of Saudi Arabia (ACT), an initiative evaluated by the presidency of the group as “historic, global and timely collaboration” for accelerated development, production and equitable access to new tools to combat the new coronavirus.
ACT is a global platform of action to increase connections with countries and facilitate interdependent relationships for collective partnerships, problem solving, mobilization and investment guidance, and direct access to new diagnoses, therapies and vaccines against the disease.
For Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Aljadaan, the international community still faces “extraordinary uncertainty” about the depth and duration of the current health crisis and stressed the urgency for unity and cooperation to face the global challenge together. “The G-20 will continue to strengthen global cooperation on all fronts and, most importantly, to close the immediate financial gap.”
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pledged $ 500 million to support these global efforts and took the opportunity to once again request that all countries, non-governmental organizations, philanthropists and the private sector participate in global efforts to close the deficit. Funds are needed to combat the covid-19 pandemic, estimated at $ 8 billion.
