A space of 90 days changed Patrick de Paula’s level in Palmeiras.
As a hero in the Paulista Championship title, the young midfielder is now bitter on the bench and the era of Abel Ferreira begins far from the performance that placed him as one of the squads of the squad.
Patrick lost his place on the team to Andrey Lopes. The interim chose Felipe Melo as a midfielder in the first leg against Red Bull Bragantino. In last Thursday’s 1-0 victory over the same rival, jersey 5 was overlooked by Danilo, returning from the U-20 National Team, who entered the captain’s seat at the end of the match.
They have been three consecutive games in which Patrick de Paula has not even come off the bench. The last performance of the Paulistão title hero, who secured the cup by taking a decisive penalty against Corinthians, was on the final matchday 25, in the 3-0 victory over Atlético-GO, for Brasileirão, still with Andrey Lopes.

With the arrival of Abel Ferreira, the loss of space was confirmed. The Portuguese coach, who has Andrey Lopes as one of the main sources of information about the squad, gave a strong message at the wheel after Thursday’s game.
– Felipe Melo is doing very well, he doesn’t provide one. Danilo trains a lot, he knows what he wants and he has that opportunity. Patrick just has to do that, in training he has to show that he wants to play, to be inside. There is only one way to convince me: training. All my decisions have an intention, which is better for the team, not for each player – he declared.
– I know they’re talking about the guys, the experts. But I don’t see the age. I look at the quality, the commitment, the disposition they have in training and games. What matters is the best for Palmeiras: finished.

Currently an option within the squad, Patrick de Paula received polls during his rapid rise at the club. Undisputed titleholder until a few weeks ago, the midfielder caught the attention of Benfica-POR, according to information confirmed by President Mauricio Galiotte himself.
European interest, however, did not advance after the Paulista Championship, much due to the values demanded by the club itself.
Palmeiras put 25 million euros (R $ 164 million at the time of the season) as the amount necessary to sell Patrick in the last European window, already closed. The player’s dismissal fine is 100 million euros (R $ 640 million).
