RIO – At a party meeting on Thursday night, federal deputy Marcelo Freixo threatened to leave PSOL if the acronym works against Wesley Teixeira’s candidacy for councilor in Duque de Caixas, in Baixada Fluminense. The educator and activist of the black movement is in danger of being punished by the PSOL for having received R $ 75 thousand in donations from businessmen for the campaign. Names such as Arminio Fraga, former president of the Central Bank, filmmaker João Moreira Salles and the bank heir to Itaú Beatriz Bracher donated to Wesley’s campaign.

Party leaders argue that Wesley returns funds donated to his campaign and discuss other sanctions. These affiliates allege the existence of an internal resolution of the acronym, from 2008, which prevents affiliates from receiving donations from large businessmen, real estate speculators, and people involved in lawsuits for environmental damage.
The case increased Freixo’s wear with part of the party. The deputy suffered resistance from the PSOL sectors a few weeks ago, when he considered resuming his candidacy for mayor of Rio, after announcing his withdrawal in the first semester. On Thursday Freixo threatened to drop the acronym, in defense of Wesley:
– If an attempt is made to challenge your candidacy, Wesley, I will leave PSOL, because I cannot stay in a party that does not see the size of what you represent for Brazilian democracy – said the parliamentarian, recalling that in 2012 he received donations from Guilherme Leal, one of the founders of Natura, for her campaign to the city of Rio de Janeiro, and no one considered challenging her.
The statement was made during a virtual plenary held on Thursday. At the event, Teixeira reaffirmed its position to continue with the money that was donated. The donations reached the educator after a meeting between him and the anti-racism activist from the Geledés Institute, Sueli Carneiro, who supports the candidacy, with members of civil society.

– We will accept the amounts that were donated. We will use these resources to make this historic campaign and we will have the opportunity to choose someone other than the families that have been there for many years after many years’ – said Teixeira.
The comedian Marcelo Adnet also used his networks to come out in defense of Wesley.
‘I’m the @wesleyteixeiras team! Power to the periphery and to those who have been silenced for centuries. That the money that isolates now helps to include, ”she wrote. The candidate shared the post along with the statement ‘Money for us is protection!’.
Even during the plenary session, without mentioning the PSOL, Wesley Teixeira complained about the inequalities in the distribution of the electoral fund parties to the candidates.

– Political parties still carry out an unequal distribution of electoral funds in that country. And it is the black movement that has to denounce to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) a better, fairer and more equitable distribution. And there is an alliance scale, yes – evaluated.
