The Brazilian Navy reported on Wednesday afternoon (3) that a medium-size chest freezer was found, around 10 am, in the search area for the five disappeared who were traveling by boat from Rio de Janeiro to Fortaleza.
According to a note, the soldiers who were in the Macaé Patrol Boat located the material “that has characteristics similar to that found on board the ship” that had disappeared. The object was located “about 23 nautical miles (or 43 km) east of the tip of Cabo Frio”, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the institution, the Patrolman found that the electrical appliance had several foods in good condition and in force, indicating that they were recent.
The search area, reported the Brazilian Navy, considers the direction and speed of the wind, the current of the sea and the sea conditions in general.
Also according to the institution, the searches for the five disappeared continue with the Patrol Vessel, the Brazilian Navy helicopter and the Air Force plane.
The Patrolman and the aircraft, still according to the institution, have already scanned more than 44 thousand square kilometers (km²), in an area of up to 90 kilometers from the coast.
Disappearance
The group disappeared on January 29, three days after leaving the Brazilian Navy, in Rio de Janeiro, for Vitória, in Espírito Santo, to carry out the first supply of the boat. The day before, however, the boat’s engine had had technical problems.
The ship was: Guilherme Ambrósio, as commander; Cláudio de Souza, machinist; Wilson dos Santos, fisherman; and Ricardo Kirts and Domingos de Souza, owners of the team.
Family members report that in the last contact, the men described unsatisfactory weather conditions. That day, they say, the rain and wind were intense, which would make it difficult to continue the trip.
