According to information gathered by Fire Department personnel from people at the scene, the victims are from the Curral Novo District. The driver was identified as Tiago Costa, 29, who lived in the Curral Novo de Minas district. He left home around 6 a.m., taking his wife and children, a 10-year-old boy and a 3-month-old baby with him.
According to popular people, Tiago had baptized his daughter yesterday and was taking 3 relatives home. In total seven people in the vehicle.
When he crossed a bridge without side protection, he lost control of the vehicle that fell into the waters of the Bandeirinhas stream. The car stopped with the wheels raised.
Although the waters are shallow, about a meter deep, the vehicle has retained the water. The victims had difficulty getting out of the car as it only had two doors.
Three victims, still unidentified, managed to get out of the vehicle and were rescued by people and sent to the Santa María hospital in Antônio Carlos.
The baby was swept away by the waters and her body was found about 200 meters from the place of the fall, trapped between the branches of the stream.
When the firefighters arrived at the scene, the 4 bodies (father Tiago, mother, 10-year-old boy and baby) were already outside the vehicle.
Until the closing of this matter, it was not possible to identify the victims due to the lack of documents and the absence of family members at the scene. The bodies were delivered by the expert and sent by the funeral home to the IML of Barbacena.
A backhoe aided the job of removing the vehicle from inside the creek.
