Four people died after a car falling into Guanabara bay, In janeiro river. The accident occurred in storage area 10 of Cais do Porto on Wednesday night (18). The driver lost control of the vehicle that was transporting the employees of a company during shift changes.
A fifth person in the car survived. This employee was sitting in the back seat and jumped out of the vehicle before falling into the water. The survivor managed to swim and save himself.
According to witnesses, the company driver was maneuvering to take the workers away when the car began to skid. Many people were on site on time due to shift changes.
In testimony, whoever was at the scene said the car had hit a fender before losing control of the steering, falling into the water and sinking.
The searches for employees continued until the early hours of this Thursday (19). The bodies were recovered and transferred to the Medical-Legal Institute (IML). The heavy rain that fell in Rio made it difficult for the firefighters to work. As it is an arrival area for ships, the region where the car dived with the occupants is a very deep place.
By note, the Navy reported that as soon as the Port Authority had knowledge of the accident, it sent a team to the site that followed the work of the Fire Department divers, ensuring the safety of navigation around the accident site. The Navy also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims.
The names of the employees have not been disclosed and the company Pennant Serviços Marítimos has not yet commented on what happened.
